What if bones were made of noodles? Is grass like hair for the Earth? Combining curiosity and imagination with experimentation and discovery, this workshop will explore all kinds of bodies, from plants to animals to aliens, in unusual and funny ways. We'll even build an entirely new creature, from the inside out.

3-Ring Circus

Join us for a week of classic circus fun, games, and art. Create tight-rope sculptures, a miniature trapeze, and clown feet paintings. Of course, there will be popcorn, juggling, clowns and more. Watch out, PT Barnum, here comes CMA!

Mysteries of the Deep Sea

Mermaids and Kraken and Serpents, oh my!
Unravel coastal folklore in this exploration of deep sea legends around the world. Tales of fantastic creatures combined with history and geography will inspire each activity. Students will create "shape-shifting" videos, Inuit block prints, plush sea creatures, mermaid jars and more. Watch out- students may come home with a sailor tattoo and an imagination the size of a whale!

Monster Mayhem

In just one week, students will transform from boring humans to horrifying monsters! Students will build appendages and prosthetics, sew and paint fabric, try out airbrushing, and use advanced mask-making techniques, all in service to their monster creations. Be sure to attend the furry, frightening, and fantastical parade at the end of the week.

The Rube Goldberg Laboratory

In this absurd and wonderful workshop, students will design elaborate inventions in order to accomplish simple tasks. 3D constructions, reminiscent of Rube Goldberg illustrations, will be built using unusual materials, such as fans, running water, and balloons. Designs may be rendered in other media, such as old-timey prints or even animated in stop motion.

Instructor: Bryan Moss

Storyboard, draw, and write an original comic story and bring it to life using theatrics, digital manipulation, and 3D construction. Learn the ins and outs of comic creation right from the source: local artist Bryan Moss. Students will even have the chance to look at graphic illustrations from the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library at OSU.
