The Young Explorers Club 

Preschool (4 years old minimum)

June 24-28, 1:00pm – 4:00pm 

Instructor: Victory Ice 

Preschoolers will treat the museum as their own clubhouse and go on mini-adventures through the museum, exploring music, theater, and visual arts.  They might invent an unusual paint “brush”, create a pop-up cardboard theater set, or send parents on a scavenger hunt through the museum.

Fairytale Magic 

Preschool (4 years old minimum)

Instructor: Maggie Boggess with the Columbus Children’s Theater 

June 17 - 21, 9:00am - Noon 

Inspired by classic fairytales, this workshop will bring the stories to life with theatrics, games, and imagination activities. Workshoppers will work together to create life-sized fairytale character creations in their storybook village! 


A Real Wild One!

Kindergarten – 1st grade

Instructors: Julie Freeman with the Columbus Children’s Theater 

June 24 – 28, 9:00am - Noon 

Watch out for animal tracks in this theatrical expedition!  Students will explore the CMA jungle and create their own imaginary animals and environments.  Creatures will come to life through costumes, storytelling and theatrics, culminating in a final performance and jungle installation. 


Time Jump!

Kindergarten – 1st grade

June 17 - 21, 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Take a ride down a wormhole to the future!  Imaginations will run wild in this futuristic extraterrestrial excursion.  Invent new solar systems, transform into an alien, and create inventions for a futuristic Earth.  Friends and family will be invited to join us in the future on the final day.

2nd – 3rd grade

Instructors: Ana Underman and Sjanneke Baker 

July 15 – 19, 9:00AM - 4:00pm

Participants will create their own puppets and send them on vacation to an imaginary land!  Invent flags, food, plants, animals, tour guides and travel videos for your puppet buddies.  Friends and families will enjoy vacation videos at the end of the week. 


Craftin’ on the Trail

2nd – 3rd grade

Instructor: Renee Zamora 

July 8 - 12, 9:00am - 4:00 pm 

Students will go on an Oregon Trail inspired adventure, as they try out pioneer and Native American crafts and activities.  Workshoppers will create their own “campfire” to tell stories around, build a cardboard wagon photo station, weave baskets, hand dye handkerchiefs, and examine strange natural objects from Out West. 


(Not your) Regular Old Haunt

 4th – 5th grade

Instructor: Jen Gillette 

July 22 – 26, 9:00am - 4:00 pm 

Transform CMA into a haunted house in this terrifyingly fun workshop!  Students will explore classic features of haunted houses, create horrifying special effects, and scare visitors with chilling performances and dramatic installations.  Beware!


Game On!

 4th – 5th grade

Instructor: Renee Zamora 

July 29 – August 2, 9:00am - 4:00 pm  

Don’t just play board games, make them!  Build a life-sized board game in this workshop inspired by classics such as Mouse Trap or Candy Land.  Create giant game pieces, invent new games, and create trophies.  Do you think you can win?  Game On!


Fashion Blasters!

 6th – 8th grade

Instructor: Jen Gillette 

June 24 - 28, 9:00am - 4:00pm 

Remix your rags in this coed clothing and textiles workshop where students will create wearable art.  Learn basic sewing techniques and go crazy with unique design and embellishments.  At the end of the week, impress friends and family with a full-on fashion show in the CMA galleries!

The Write Stuff 

July 22-26, 9:00am - 4:00pm 

Explore the elements of a great script and develop your skills as a creative writer.  Submit your story to CCT’s Annual Child Writing Project.  Join CCT for a special program at the Columbus Museum of Art. This 1/2 day camp will put you in the author's seat to discover the elements of a great script and develop your skills as a creative writer. Explore the CMA galleries and the amazingly awesome Wonder Room for inspiration, then write original stories and bring them to life with your fellow actors.  Register at
